UCLA had its nine-match win streak snapped on Wednesday night by third-ranked Pepperdine in Malibu. The Waves handed the Bruins their first MPSF loss by the scores of 25-14, 25-20, 25-19. UCLA, which entered the match leading the MPSF in hitting percentage, managed to hit just .110 for the match, with no player over .200. The Waves also controlled the nets, outblocking the Bruins 14.5 to 5.0.

The visitors fell behind 3-8 in set one and never recovered. UCLA trailed 5-14 before the Waves finished them off by the score of 14-25.

UCLA began set two in a different fashion, taking a 3-0 lead on a play at the net by Spencer Rowe. After a Gonzalo Quiroga block, the Bruins enjoyed a 5-1 edge. The Waves gradually crept back in to the set and UCLA took a two-point lead, at 10-8, on a kill by Robart Page. UCLA still led by a couple at 13-11 after a Quiroga spike. Then it started to fall apart as the Waves scored the next three points to go on top 13-14. Pepperdine pulled out to a 19-23 advantage before settling for a 20-25 win.

Set three started out like the first for the Bruins who fell behind 3-8. UCLA trailed 5-12 before closing to 8-13. Pepperdine kept the lead and was on top 18-21 before coming away with a 19-25 win and a sweep in the match.

Page led the UCLA attack with 15 kills. Quiroga added 10 kills for the Bruins who are now 9-2, 6-1 on the year. Next up is a match at USC on Sunday at 6 p.m. That contest will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks.
