CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The Oregon State Beavers did something Friday night in Gill Coliseum that they haven't done in five years, defeat the UCLA Bruins, 70-54.  With the win, the Beavers snapped a nine-game losing streak to UCLA, improving to 16-9 overall and 8-5 in the Pac-12. The Bruins, who lead the all-time series 44-19, fell to 11-14 overall and 5-8 in league play.

Atonye Nyingifa led all scorers with 22 points and also hauled in a team-high seven rebounds. Nirra Fields (11 points, six rebounds, five steals and three assists) and Thea Lemberger (11 points and four assists) were the only other Bruins to reach double figures.

OSU was led by Ruth Hamblin's double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Sydney Wiese and Gabriella Hanson each scored 14 points to give the Beavers a trio of double-figure scorers.

Oregon State jumped out to a 12-4 lead (14:40) thanks to seven offensive rebounds in the first five minutes. The Bruins then went on an 8-2 run in the next three minutes to pull within two (14-12) as Nyingifa scored all eight points for UCLA. The Beavers would go on an 8-0 run late in the half and built a 42-26 lead by halftime.

The Beavers shot 50 percent (15-for-30) from the field in the opening stanza while UCLA managed just 38.7 percent (12-for-31). OSU held a 21-15 rebounding edge and won the turnover battle, 6-7.

OSU built its largest lead of the game at 21 points (53-32) with 15:00 remaining on a three-pointer by Wiese, her fourth trey of the game without a miss. The Bruins wouldn't get closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

For the game, Oregon State shot 52.1 percent (25-for-48) from the field, compared to 35.4 percent (23-for-65) for the Bruins. UCLA had a big edge in the turnover battle, 21-9, committing just two in the second half while forcing 15 on OSU. But the poor shooting left the Bruins with just a 20-17 advantage in points off turnovers. The Bruins had more offensive rebounds (15) than defensive boards (13) and lost the rebounding battle 41-28.

The Bruins head to Eugene, Ore., where they will face the Oregon Ducks on Feb. 17 at 4:00 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
