Third-ranked UCLA knocked off second-ranked Stanford in the semifinals of the UC Irvine Invitational, 9-6, advancing to the championship match against top-ranked USC Sunday afternoon at 5:15 pm.

The Bruins jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first quarter behind goals from Becca Dorst, Rachel Fattal and Kodi Hill before the Cardinal answered back with two straight goals. The Bruins added a power play goal by Emily Donohoe to move ahead 4-2 after one quarter.

An exclusion goal by Stanford's Ashley Grossman brought the Cardinal back to within a goal, but Danielle Ferraro and then Fattal with a power play goal made it 6-3 UCLA before the half.

Stanford came back in the third quarter to close the gap to just one goal, 6-5. The Bruins then ran off three unanswered goals by Dorst, Alexa Tielmann and Mackenzie Barr to put away the Cardinal.

The Bruin defense was strong all game, making several key steals, and goalkeeper Sami Hill totaled 11 saves for the Bruins, who improved to 15-1 on the season. Dorst and Fattal led the Bruins with two goals apiece.

UCLA will face USC in the championship match in Irvine. The Trojans defeated California, 12-7, in the earlier semifinal.
