Pac-12 Swimming and Diving Championships Central

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Sophomore Katy Campbell broke the three-year-old school record in the 500 Freestyle, while freshman Linnea Mack set the UCLA 25-yard mark in the 50 Free during day two of the Pac-12 Swimming and Diving Championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.

The Bruins had some great swims to start off the morning in the preliminaries of the 500 Freestyle. Junior Ally Loper qualified for the Championship Final, going a career-best 4:44.20, which improved her NCAA 'B' qualifying time. It was the eighth-best time of the prelims and the third-best mark in the event in UCLA history.

Junior Kacey Milligan, Campbell and senior Lauren Baker each made the B Final, swimming the 12th-, 13th- and 14th-best times, respectively. Milligan had a personal-best 4:45.12 to set an NCAA 'B' mark, Campbell posted a career-best 4:45.36 to improve her 'B' time, while Baker had a 4:45.48. Junior Monica Dornick advanced to the C Final with a 4:51.35, the 24th-best time in the morning.

In the 200 Individual Medley, three Bruins qualified for the C Final, senior Anna Senko (19th, 2:02.03), sophomore Arlyn Upshaw (21st, 2:02.85) and freshman Ashley Tse (23rd, 2:03.15). The best UCLA time in the morning came in an exhibition swim from junior Noelle Tarazona, who had a season-best 1:59.89 to improve her NCAA 'B' mark.

A total of 15 Bruins swam in the 50 Free, with three making the evening session. Mack had a 22.45, the seventh-best time overall, which was a career best and improved her NCAA 'B' mark. It also tied her with senior Kathryn Murphy for the UCLA all-time 25-yard record in the 50 Free.

Speaking of ties, Murphy and fellow senior Ting Quah each tied for 11th in the morning with times of 22.73. Just missing out on the finals were a pair of Madisons. Sophomore Applegate (23.44) and freshman White (23.45) each swam personal bests.

In between the morning and evening swimming sessions, the 1-Meter diving preliminaries and final took place. Senior Paulina Guzman was seventh after her initial six-dive effort, posting a season-best score of 283.70. Freshman Annika Lenz just missed making the eight-person final with a 282.10 for ninth place. Senior Haley McNamara (20th, 242.55), sophomore Montana Monahan (23rd, 239.70) and freshman Danni Repper (27th, 220.90) rounded out the five-diver field for the Bruins.

In the final, Guzman improved on her season-best score with a six-dive total of 290.00. It was .90 shy of the senior's career high.

Campbell got the Bruins off to a great start in the evening session, setting a school record in the 500 Free with a time of 4:42.39. She broke the record previously held by Sam Vanden Berge, who swam a 4:42.50 at the 2011 NCAA Championships. Campbell finished second in the B Final and 10th overall, improving her NCAA 'B' time.

Loper was eighth in the Championship Final (4:51.07), Milligan was 13th overall (fifth in B Final) with a 4:45.67 and Baker was 15th (seventh in B Final) with a 4:47.02.

In the 200 IM C Final, Upshaw was 4th (20th overall) with a 2:02.37 and Tse was 6th (22nd) with a 2:03.31.

In the 50 Free, Mack broke the tie with Murphy for the UCLA 25-yard record with a swim of 22.34 to improve her career best and NCAA 'B' mark. Quah was second in the B Final (10th overall) with a 22.57 to improve her 'B' time. Murphy was fifth in the B race (13th) with a 22.88.

The 200 Free Relay team just missed the podium with a fourth-place finish, as Murphy, Mack, Quah and Dornick had a time of 1:29.71. The Bruin B team of sophomore Katie Kinnear, White, Applegate and junior Jessica Khojasteh posted a mark of 1:32.03.
