Alison Lee to Play in Kraft Nabisco Championship
By: UCLA Athletics
UCLA freshman Alison Lee will compete as an amateur in the 2014 season’s first major -- the Kraft Nabisco Championship, Apr. 3-6 at Mission Hills Country Club.

Lee, 19, gained entry on a sponsor’s exemption and 2014 marks her second start at the famed Rancho Mirage course. As a 17 year-old in 2012, Lee missed the Kraft Nabisco cut with scores of 79-76-155.

“We’re very proud that Alison Lee will be playing in the Kraft Nabisco Championship,” said UCLA Head Coach Carrie Forsyth. “She has put together an outstanding freshman season, and playing in the LPGA’s first major of the season is a great reward for all of her hard work and accomplishments. We’re cheering for her to make the cut.”

Last month, Lee was named to the 2014 U.S. Curtis Cup Team along with teammate Erynne Lee. In August, she advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur after tying for fifth place in stroke play.

Currently the third-ranked amateur in the world and the second-ranked collegian in the country, Lee has won a pair of tournaments in her first season at UCLA and leads the team in several statistical categories. She boasts a 70.7 scoring average in eight starts and is 28-under par through 24 rounds this season. She has recorded 15 subpar rounds, eight under 70, both team leaders. She has also finished among the Top 20 in all eight of her appearances.

One of the most decorated players in junior golf history, Lee was named First-Team AJGA All-American six times and won nine times on that circuit. She was a three-time member of the Junior Solheim Cup Team, and twice represented the United States on the Junior Ryder Cup Team. In 2009, she made the cut at the U.S. Women’s Open and finished 26th.

Lee will join UCLA alumni professionals Tiffany Joh, Mo Martin, Giulia Sergas and Mariajo Uribe, who are also competing in the tournament.
