Track and Field Goes Against Nationís Best at Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. – The UCLA track and field team put together some impressive performances over the course of the first two days of competition at the 56th Annual Mt. SAC Relays at historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium.

In the first day, UCLA made its mark early when Alexis Walker finished second overall in the heptathlon with 5,409 points. The total capped off her first ever time in the grueling event and ranks as the 10th best performance in UCLA history.

Later in the evening on the first day, Emily Scharmann ran a personal best of 20 seconds to clock a 10:49.10. That time now ranks seventh all-time at UCLA.

Also setting personal bests in the event were Meghan Marvin (10:54.31) and Sabrina Seay (10:53.03).

On Friday, Julian Wruck once again won the discus, this time with a throw of 211-7. Matt Kosecki threw a personal best of 196-8.

In the high jump, Zibby Boyer tied for second by clearing 5-7 while Caroline Gyllenbern tied for fifth by also clearing the bar at 5-7.

In their flight of the pole vault, Natasha Kolbo cleared 13-7.25 to finish third while Elena Clarke was fourth with a vault of 13-1.50.

In the elite Olympic development flight of the 5,000m Ferdinand Edman placed sixth with a time of 13:56.87. Daniel Herrera, who is redshirting this season, won the event with a time of 13:52.33. Lane Werley made his season debut with a time of 14:17.  In the women’s event, Kelsey Smith ran a 16:12.47.

UCLA still has a few competitors left at Mt. SAC as Cody Crampton will participate in the elite high jump and Mike Woepse will participate in the elite pole vault. Kylie Price will long jump and Nicholas Scarvelis will compete in the shot put on Saturday.
