LOS ANGELES – The highly anticipated dual meet on the oval between rivals UCLA and USC will take place on Sunday, May 4, at Drake Stadium. The field events begin at 9 a.m., while the action on the track will commence at 11 a.m. The meet will air on the Pac-12 Networks taped delayed on Wednesday, May 7, at 8:30 p.m.
The Bruins are coming off a sweep last year against the Trojans at USC. The men won, 85-78, while the women pulled off a 90-73 victory. It was the first sweep for UCLA since 2006. Overall USC leads the series on the men’s side, 42-38, while UCLA holds a commanding lead in the women’s competition, 22-8.
Scoring for the meet will be the traditional 5-3-1 for individual events and 5-0 for relays. There are 163 points available in a total of 19 events with 82 required to secure the win.
The UCLA men enter the meet ranked No. 13 in the country. Overall the Bruins have four athletes ranked in the top-10 in their respective events. Julian Wruck continues to lead the nation in the discus with a throw of 213-3. Kylie Price checks in at sixth in the long jump with a mark of 21-1.25, Nick Hartle is also sixth in the 800m with a time of 1:47.51 while Cody Crampton rounds out the top-10 ranked 10th in the high jump with a clearance of 7-2.50.
There are 30 marks by UCLA athletes that are in the top-48 of the NCAA West Region. In the region the Bruins have nine marks that rank in the top-10.
The multi-event athletes will head to the Pac-12 Championships next weekend in Pullman, Wash., starting on Saturday, May 10. The distance squad will compete at the Oxy Distance Carnival on the same day at Occidental College.
