No. 12 UCLA Women's Rowing Finishes Fourth at Pac-12 Championships

GOLD RIVER, Calif. - The No. 12-ranked UCLA women's rowing team finished fourth out of seven teams at Pac-12 Championships on Sunday morning at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center.

UCLA posted a fourth-team place finish for the second consecutive year. Stanford finished first overall, followed by Washington, California, UCLA, USC, Washington State and Oregon State, respectively.

The Bruins’ second varsity eight finished second, the highest finish of any of UCLA’s four boats competing on Sunday morning. UCLA’s second varsity registered its highest finish at Pac-12 Championships since finishing second in 2006.

UCLA’s varsity eight crew finished fifth, logging a time of 6:28.87, less than eight seconds behind first-place Stanford (6:20.41). Washington, California and USC rounded out the second through fourth finishers. UCLA’s boat crossed the finish line ahead of Washington State and Oregon State.

The second varsity eight posted a time of 6:37.10, just 2.90 seconds behind first-place Stanford (6:34.20). California, Washington, Washington State, USC and Oregon State rounded out the remaining five teams in the second varsity eight race.

UCLA’s varsity four finished fifth, clocking a time of 7:33.50. Stanford finished first in the varsity four, followed by Washington, California and Washington State, respectively. USC and Oregon State followed the Bruins for sixth and seventh place, respectively.

The Bruins’ novice eight posted a second-place finish with a time of 6:54.50, crossing the finish line just 4.70 seconds behind first-place Washington.

The final standings are determined by a point system, with the varsity eight performances earning a higher point total than the second varsity eight, varsity four and novice eight crews. UCLA earned nine points in the varsity eight race, 12 in the second varsity eight, and three in each of the varsity four and novice eight races.

The NCAA Championship field will be unveiled on Tuesday, May 20, at 2 p.m. (PT) on the NCAA Division I selection show at NCAA.com.
