At least the Bruins will get a good night’s sleep. Teams in positions 16-30 finished the second round on Sunday, and teed off in a shotgun for Round 3 at 4:40 p.m. CDT after another weather delay. The top eight teams advance to the match play bracket after 54 holes.
After Round 2, the team leader board featured Stanford on top at 12-under par 548, followed by Alabama at 552 (-8) and Oklahoma State at 556 (-4). LSU was fourth at 557 (-3) and Georgia Tech was fifth at 559 (-1). Oklahoma and SMU were tied for sixth place at 560 (E), and the Bruins held the crucial eighth position at 563 (+3). However, nine teams were within six strokes of eighth place. Two of those teams – Cal and Houston – tee off Sunday afternoon in an attempt to get all 30 teams to complete the third round.
In Round 2, junior Preston Valder posted the Bruins’ low round. He fired a one-under par 69 and was tied for 26th place at even par 140. Sophomore Lorens Chan posted an even par 70 and was tied with Chan. Senior Anton Arboleda’s 71 (+1) gave him a 36-hole total of 139 (-1), tied for 18th. Sophomore Jonathan Garrick was tied for 89th place at five-over par 145, following his second round score of 75 (+5). Junior Matt Pinizzotto was tied for 126th at 150 (+10) after a round of 74 (+4).
Stanford’s Cameron Wilson and Patrick Rodgers were first and second after 36 holes. Wilson fired a seven-under par score of 63 in the second round and was first at 134 (-6). Rodgers posted a second round score of 68 (-2) and was in second place at five-under par 135.
