UCLA Adds Pepe Barroso Silva to Top-Ranked Recruiting Class
By: UCLA Athletics

The UCLA men's soccer team has added Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Barroso Silva to its top-ranked recruiting class for the Fall of 2014. Silva will enter the 2014 season as a freshman and will be eligible to play for the Bruins this fall.

Silva hails from Madrid, Spain and has competed for the club team Atletico de Madrid since 2010. This past year he played with the U-18 team, competing at the U-19 level in Spain in the Division Honor Juvenil. During the 2013-14 season, Silva was called up to the Madrid Region U-18 Select team, training with Atletico's first division team as well. In 2012-13, Silva went on loan to C.D Leganés, also of the Division Honor Juveniles, where he played in 20 matches with the club. Finally, in 2010 and 2011, Silva was selected as the best goal keeper of the Atletico Madrid youth farm system.

“We are excited to add Pepe to our rich history of excellent goalkeepers here at UCLA," assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Nick Carlin-Voigt said. "We expect Pepe to immediately come in and push our returning goalkeepers. Pepe has excellent reactions, is a proven shot stopper and has had elite tactical and technical preparation while with the academy at Atletico Madrid (Champions League Finalist), where he was fortunate enough to train with first team goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Pepe plays at the highest level of Spanish U-18 league football and we are thrilled that he chose UCLA to continue his academic study."

Silva will join six other freshmen (Seyi Adekoya, Christian Chavez, William Cline, Abu Danladi, Chase Gasper and Joab Santoyo) this fall to make up the consensus No. 1 ranked recruiting class in the nation, the second consecutive season that the Bruins have brought in the top-ranked class. UCLA also added forward Larry Ndjock from Loyola University Maryland as a part of the 2014 class, as he enrolled at UCLA in the winter and has already joined the program.
