UCLA Men's Soccer Announces 2014 Schedule
By: UCLA Athletics

A total of 11 UCLA men's soccer games will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks in 2014, as announced by the conference today. The Bruins will kick off the 2014 season with back-to-back matches at ACC powers Wake Forest on August 29 and North Carolina on August 31.

UCLA will once again play a tough non-conference schedule that includes eight teams that made the NCAA Tournament a year ago. In addition to the opening matches at Wake Forest and North Carolina, the Bruins will take on 2013 Tournament participants New Mexico (Sept. 7) and UC Santa Barbara (Sept. 20) on the road. UCLA will also play a home match against Cal State Northridge (Sept. 28), another 2013 NCAA Tournament team, in addition to playing home and home matches against conference foes Washington, California and Stanford. Additionally, the Bruins will play home matches against California rivals Santa Clara and Cal Poly on Sept. 12 and Sept. 14 respectively.

The Bruins begin conference play on Oct. 4 at San Diego State and will make 11 appearances on the Pac-12 Networks in 2014. Below is a complete listing of UCLA matches that will be broadcast by the Pac-12 Networks. Home matches are in bold.

The Bruins return many key players from last year’s squad that reached the NCAA Tournament for the 31st consecutive year and earned the No. 1 overall seed in the Tournament. 2013 Pac-12 Player of the Year and MAC Hermann Trophy finalist Leo Stolz returns to lead the Bruins after scoring a team-leading 11 goals and tying for the team-lead with eight assists last season. Also returning is team captain and 2013 All-American Earl Edwards Jr., who started all 20 matches in goal for the Bruins last year while recording seven shutouts. Second-team All-Pac-12 selection Aaron Simmons is back to help anchor the defense along with 2013 Freshman All-American Michael Amick. Finally, midfielders Jordan Vale and Felix Vobejda return after notching nine and six points respectively in 2013.

For the second year in a row, the Bruins will also bring in the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation this fall. UCLA's 2014 freshman class features four players have either competed for or trained with the U.S. Youth National Team and five players that are ranked among the top 150 recruits in the country according to both College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer. Additionally, the Bruins added forward Larry Ndjock from Loyola University Maryland as a part of the class. Ndjock enrolled at UCLA in the winter and has already joined the program.

UCLA has finished in the top eight of the RPI standings in seven of the last 10 seasons and in its last 27 matches, has lost only once (20-1-6 overall record). The Bruins have also not dropped a Pac-12 road game since October 15, 2010 at Stanford (19 straight unbeaten, 17-0-2 record).
