UCLA Women's Soccer Announces 2014 Schedule
By: UCLA Athletics
UCLA's NCAA title defense officially begins Aug. 22 with a season-opening home game against Maryland. The Bruins will face six teams that advanced to the NCAA tournament a year ago, including 21-time NCAA champion North Carolina on Aug. 29 in a rematch of the 2013 NCAA Quarterfinals, which the Bruins won in double overtime, 1-0, in Chapel Hill.

Other NCAA Tournament teams the Bruins will face are Wake Forest, Colorado, Stanford, California, and Washington State.

A Pac-12 Conference-high 14 of the Bruins' 20 regular season games will be televised by Pac-12 Networks. Additionally, UCLA's game at Texas will be aired on the Longhorn Network.

"We are very excited about our home schedule," said UCLA head coach and 2013 Soccer America Women's Coach of the Year Amanda Cromwell. "There are some fantastic teams coming to play on Marshall Field, and the fans will have some exciting soccer to watch. The level of competition throughout the non-conference season will prepare us for those tight conference games and ready to compete in NCAAs."

The Bruins return 10 starters from last season's NCAA championship squad, including Honda Award winner Abby Dahlkemper, U.S. National Team members Sam Mewis and Sarah Killion, All-American Katelyn Rowland, and College Cup Defensive MVP Ally Courtnall. UCLA's Top 5 returning scorers are all back, including Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Darian Jenkins, who led the team in scoring with 11 goals and 27 points; Taylor Smith, who was second in scoring with eight goals and 26 points; and Kodi Lavrusky, who ranked third in goals scored with seven, including the championship-winning goal in overtime.
