Incoming UCLA freshman Alison Lee won a pair of matches on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the 113th U.S. Women’s Amateur at The Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina.
Lee, 17, defeated local favorite Katelyn Dambaugh in 19 holes in her morning match, then cruised to a 3 and 2 victory over Alexandra Harkins in the afternoon.
Against Dambaugh, Lee won the 19th hole with a birdie. Earlier in the round, Dambaugh rallied on the inward nine from a 2-up deficit, squaring the match with a par at the 16th hole.
In her afternoon match, Lee made three birdies on the front side and built a 5-up lead after the outward nine. Harkins cut the lead to three, but ultimately ran out of holes.
In Friday’s quarterfinals, Lee will meet Katelyn Sepmoree of Tyler, TX.
