UCLA gymnast Danusia Francis has been selected to compete for Great Britain at the 2013 World University Games.
Francis, who is finishing her freshman year at UCLA, will be joined on the British squad by two-time Olympian Hannah Whelan (Liverpool John Moore University), Charlotte Lindsay (University of Manchester), and Rebecca Hall (Leeds Metropolitan University).
The World University Games will take place in Kazan, Russia July 5-17, with gymnastics competition running July 7-10. The women's team competition will take place July 7, followed by the individual all-around on July 9 and the individual apparatus finals on July 10.
Francis competed at the British Team Championships last month, leading her Heathrow club team to a team silver medal. She earned the meet's highest score on balance beam with a 13.050 and was second on uneven bars (13.25) and third on floor exercise (13.350). A reserve on the 2012 British Olympic team and a two-time British beam champion, she helped her country earn an all-time best fifth-place finish at the 2011 World Championships. At UCLA, she earned first-team All-America honor on the balance beam and helped lead UCLA to a fourth-place national finish. In team competition, Francis hit all 31 of her routines during the year, averaging 9.820 on beam and 9.780 on bars.
