"We tried hard," said Bruin head coach Ben Howland. "Unlike in our first game, we didn't shoot the ball that well tonight, we missed some open shots. We did a good job defensively (MT shot 30.3 from the field and 22.2 from three-point range) and we out-boarded them (54-36).

"Arron Afflalo played a very good game and he also played well in our first exhibition contest," Howland said. "He's been our most consistent player in practice. He plays hard every day. He has a great work ethic."

Monterrey Tech was led by Sergio Gamboa's 12 points. MT drops to 0-3 and plays at Loyola Marymount on Friday.

The Bruins end the exhibition season with a 2-0 record, also defeating Simon Fraser (Canada) 97-48 on Nov. 5 in Pauley Pavilion. UCLA opens the 2004-05 regular season in Pauley Pavilion on Saturday, Nov. 20, hosting Chicago State in a nonconference contest, tipoff set for 1 p.m.
