From there, neither team took more than a one point lead prior to the last tie of the match, at 22-22. Pepperdine then put together two three-point runs to take a 27-23 lead before putting away the game by a 30-25 margin.

Game two was also closely fought early, and the Bruins had the score tied as late as 18-18 before the Waves put together six straight points behind the service of Melissa Snow to go up 24-18, eventually putting the game away with a 30-25 score.

The Bruins came out with a different starting lineup in game three, with head coach Andy Banachowski putting Brittany Ringel in place of Heather Cullen. The Waves continued to fight back, tying the game at 29-29, and would for the match at 31-30 and 32-31 before converting with a kill from Stacy Rouwenhorst for the 34-32 win.

"We had a few breakdowns tonight, especially with their short serves," said Banachowski. "We played better in game three, but we had some critical errors at the end of the game."
