Final Stats

LOS ANGELES - The 12th-ranked UCLA women's volleyball team was swept by No. 24 Arizona on Saturday evening in Pauley Pavilion with game scores of 30-28, 30-21, 30-28. The Wildcats started quickly and never looked back, as UCLA (14-7, 7-4 Pac-10) did not have a lead of more than one point over Arizona (13-8, 5-6 Pac-10) until the third game of the match.

The Wildcats sprinted out of the gate on Saturday night in Pauley Pavilion, taking an early 11-2 lead before UCLA spent its second and final timeout of the game. At that point, Arizona was hitting .857 as a team without an error, led by Meghan Cumpston who had five kills on as many swings at that point, while UCLA was hitting -.182 with Katie Carter having recorded both of UCLA's two kills and one of the team's four errors to that point.

The Bruins would fight back, pulling to within two points at 26-24, but UCLA was unable to close that final gap and fell 30-28 in the opening game of the match. In that game, Cumpston had 10 of her match-high 24 kills with three errors on 16 swings for a .438 attack percentage. UCLA did recover from its early slow start, finishing the game with just five team errors and a .333 team attack percentage in game one.

UCLA scored the first point of game two on a Wildcat attack error, but Arizona stormed back to take a 4-2 lead and would never allow the Bruins to tie the game again. Arizona had three separate three-point scoring runs and a six-point run behind the service of Kim Glass. Cumpston again aled the Wildcats in the game, recording eight kills and one error on 16 attacks for a .438 attack percentage. For the Bruins, Becky Green led the team in game two, hitting .455 with six kills and an error on 11 attacks.

The Bruins came out of the locker room for game three on a mission, scoring the first four points and five of the first six before Arizona spent its first timeout of the game. UCLA held a 7-3 lead before the Wildcats started to chip away, eventually tying the game at 16-16. From that point, the teams traded scoring runs and were tied as late as 20-20 before the Wildcats scored three straight points, two on kills from Kim Glass and one from Bre Ladd, to take the lead for good. UCLA closed to within one point at 29-30, but a block by Ladd and Glass ended the game and the match with Arizona winning 30-28. Glass did lead the Wildcats with seven kills in game three, but hit just .091 as she had five errors on 22 swings in game three.

For the match, the Bruins were led by Becky Green, who had 15 kills on a .393 attack percentage to go along with two aces, 15 digs and a block assist for 17.5 points. Brynn Murphy also scored in double figures with 14 kills, two aces and a block assist for 16.5 points.

UCLA returns to action on Thursday evening with a 7 pm match at Stanford, followed by a Friday evening match at California.
