Final Stats

LOS ANGELES - The 17th-ranked UCLA women's volleyball team swept Oregon State on Friday night in Pauley Pavilion with game scores of 32-30, 30-24, 30-24. The Bruins (16-9, 9-6 Pac-10) were led by Katie Carter and Nana Meriwether with 16 and 12 kills, respectively. Oregon State falls to 10-15 (4-12 Pac-10) with the loss.

Oregon State took the lead early in game one and held it through the majority of the match, as UCLA did not tie the game until the 22-22 mark. A Bruin block achieved a 23-22 UCLA lead before a Bruin attack error started a four-point OSU run and gave the Beavers a 27-24 lead. UCLA was able to respond with a rally of its own, fighting off two Oregon State game points to tie the game at 29 and 30 before a Krystal McFarland service ace and a Nana Meriwether kill closed out the 32-30 UCLA victory.

In game two, the Bruins opened an early lead and never relinquished it. The Beavers were able to tie the score as late as 11-11, but from that point UCLA used a .349 team attack percentage to close out the 30-24 win. The Bruins then closed out the match leading game three from wire to wire, again by a 30-24 score.

Katie Carter led the Bruins with 16 kills and a .615 attack percentage on 26 total attacks. Her error-free evening ranks 17th on UCLA's all-time list for attack percentage with 20 or more attacks. Additionally, Carter's 36 attacks is the highest total for any player in UCLA history to hit .600 or better (minimum 20 attempts). Nana Meriwether also had double-figure kills in the match, finishing with 12 and a team-high five blocks and two aces. Chrissie Zartman led all players with 17 digs in the match.

UCLA returns to action on Saturday night on the main floor of Pauley Pavilion with a 7 pm match against Oregon. UCLA's five seniors, Heather Cullen, Krystal McFarland, Brynn Murphy, Brittany Ringel and Chrissie Zartman will be honored in a pre-game ceremony. The match is the final event of a busy day on UCLA's campus, as the women's swimming and diving team opens the day with a noon dual meet against Arizona. At 1 pm, the men's basketball team tips off its regular season with a game against Chicago State in Pauley Pavilion, and the UCLA women's soccer team plays host to Duke in an NCAA third-round match at Drake Stadium at 4 pm.
