Box Score

LOS ANGELES - Senior Ali Daley led the Bruins with 15 kills and 13 digs, including the match clincher in the third set, as the 10th-ranked Bruins swept #11 USC on Friday at Pauley Pavilion. Scores were 25-22, 25-16, 26-24. The Bruins close out the regular season at 20-10 (9-9 in the Pac-10) to post their 10th-straight, 20-win campaign.

Senior Nellie Spicer also had a double-double with 33 assists and 11 digs, adding six kills, while senior Jessica Fine had 12 digs. Freshman Amanda Gil posted nine blocks, freshman Katie Camp had eight kills and sophomore Jazmin Machado recorded nine digs, serving the final Bruin run in the third set.

The opening set was a back-and-forth affair that featured nine ties and five lead changes. After the Trojans scored the first two points of the match, the Bruins came back with six in a row to take a 6-2 lead. Daley had a kill and ace to start the run, which was followed by back-to-back spikes by Gil and senior Laura Holloway. After a Gil/Spicer combo block, Daley finished off the run with another kill to put the Bruins ahead by four. USC called timeout and came out on fire after the break, scoring 10 of the next 14 points to go ahead 12-10. The Bruins scored four of the next five points on two kills by Daley and one each by Camp and Holloway to take a 14-13 advantage, but a 7-3 Trojans' streak put them up 20-17.

However, UCLA made a big run at the end of the set to win the opener. The run started with back-to-back kills by freshman Sara Sage to get the Bruins to within one at 20-19. After a Trojans' sideout put them back up by two, the Bruins scored five unanswered to earn set point at 24-21. Following a USC service error, the Bruins got a Camp/Gil roof to tie it at 21 and moved ahead 22-21 after a Trojan attack error. Another Camp/Gil block put the Bruins up by two and a Spicer kill brought up set point. USC sided out, but a service error on UCLA's second set point gave the home team the 25-22 win. Daley had six kills in the first, as the Bruins out-hit the Trojans .257 to .182.

The Bruins led wire-to-wire in the second, scoring the first three points on a Camp kill and a kill and a block by Gil. After a USC sideout, a kill by Daley and a Gil/Spicer roof put the Bruins up 5-1. The Trojans recorded the next three to cut their deficit to one at 5-4 and were still within that margin at 8-7, but a 5-0 UCLA run made it a 13-7 advantage for the home team. Spicer began the run with a kill, and following two USC errors, Daley had a kill and a solo block to make it a six-point game.

Leading 15-9, another 5-0 run put the Bruins up 20-9. A Camp/Gil block started the run, which was followed by a Spicer kill and a USC attack error to make it 18-9. Back-to-back spikes by Daley and Spicer then pushed the Bruins' lead to 11. UCLA got its lead up to as many as 12 on two occasions and went on to win the second set 25-16, clinching it on a Camp kill. Daley had four kills and seven digs in the second, while Camp and Spicer added three kills each, as the Bruins hit .316 and held the Trojans to a .000 hitting percentage. Fine had seven digs.

The third was another roller-coaster set, but a great rally at the end by the Bruins finished off the sweep. Things started out in the Trojans' favor, as they jumped out to leads of 5-2 and 11-7. UCLA then had its first rally of the set, scoring four in a row and seven of the next eight to take a 14-12 advantage. The run began with a Spicer kill and a Gil block. After another Spicer spike, a combo block by Gil and sophomore Dicey McGraw evened the score at 11. USC sided out to go back up 12-11, but another 3-0 UCLA run put the home team up 14-12. The Bruins got two USC errors and a McGraw/Sage block during the run.

The Trojans rallied with a 12-5 run to earn set point at 24-19, but the Bruins came back to score the final seven to steal the set 26-24. The run began with a Daley kill, followed by a USC attack error and another spike by Daley. A Trojan ball handling error got the Bruins to within one at 24-23 and a Gil/Daley block tied things up at 24. Daley came back with another kill to give the Bruins match point and the senior closed out the Trojans with her 15th kill of the contest to send UCLA to victory. Daley had five kills in the third, while Camp added three. The Bruins out-hit the Trojans .128 to .106.

Lauren Williams led the Trojans (16-11, 9-9 Pac-10) with nine kills, while Alex Jupiter posted eight. USC hit .091 as a team.

The Bruins find out where their postseason journey begins on Sunday when the NCAA Selection Show airs at 7 p.m. on ESPNU.
