The Bruins never trailed in taking the opening set, scoring four of the first five points on kills by Lowe, sophomore Zoë Nightingale and Kidder, and an ace by Reeves. The Waves came back to tie the score at 5, 6 and 7-all, but a 3-0 UCLA run on two Pepperdine errors and a Lowe kill made it 10-7. One point is as close as the Waves would get for the rest of the set. Leading 11-10, the Bruins closed out the set on a 14-4 run to take the opener 25-14.

A 5-0 run on four kills by Kidder and a Wave attack error made it 16-10. After a Pepperdine sideout, UCLA netted four of the next five on a Kidder/Nightingale block, kills by Love and Nightingale and a Pepperdine attack error to make it 20-12. After another sideout, the Bruins scored five of the last six on kills by junior Mariana Aquino, Love and Lowe and two Pepperdine errors to win it by 11. Kidder had six kills and no errors in 16 swings (.375) in the first set, Lowe added four kills and no miscues in six attempts (.667) and Love posted three kills. The Bruins out-hit the Waves .368 to .033.

The Waves jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the second set, but four in a row on a Strehlow kill and three straight from Love made it 6-5 UCLA. Pepperdine tied it at six, but a 3-0 UCLA run on a kill by Nightingale and two in a row from Aquino put the home squad up 9-6. Although the Waves would tie it back up at 14, the Bruins wouldn't trail for the rest of the set.

UCLA closed the set on an 11-1 run to win the second by a score of 25-15. Two kills by Kidder, and then two more by Love, made it 18-14. After a Pepperdine sideout, the Bruins scored the last seven of the set on two Wave attack errors, Love and Kidder kills, another Pepperdine attack error, a Todorovic ace and a Love kill to win it by 10. Love was 8-for-9 in attempts (.889) with no errors in the second set, Kidder added five kills and Aquino posted three. Reeves recorded six digs, as the Bruins out-hit the Waves .471 to .229.

The Bruins never trailed in the third to finish off the sweep. UCLA scored five of the first six, as Kidder had a hand in four of the points on two kills, a solo block and a combo roof. After a Pepperdine sideout, a kill by Reeves and two in a row from Love made it 8-2 Bruins. The Waves cut their margin to three at 8-5, but a 4-1 UCLA run on kills by Love, Reeves and Strehlow and a Pepperdine service error made it 12-6.

The Waves would get to within two, but no closer. At 18-16, a 4-0 UCLA run on a Pepperdine service error, a combo block by Reeves and freshman Hannah Boland, a Love kill and a Wave attack error made it 22-16. Pepperdine forced the Bruins into calling a late timeout by cutting the deficit to two at 24-22, but Love finished the night off with her 16th kill to close a 25-22 triumph in the third. Love had five kills in the third, while Kidder and Strehlow each posted three. Todorovic added eight digs in the set, as the Bruins out-hit the Waves .429 to .289.
