Los Angeles, Calif. - The ninth-ranked UCLA Baseball team fell to the Long Beach State Dirtbags on Tuesday night by a score of 11-1 at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Sophomore Kevin Kramer went 2-3 with a run scored to lead the UCLA offense.

Freshman right-hander Cody Poteet took the loss for UCLA, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing five runs (four earned). Nick Sabo picked up the win for the Dirtbags after tossing five scoreless innings.

Long Beach State got on the board early, scoring two in the top of the first on a RBI double by Michael Hill and a RBI groundout by Ino Patron. The Dirtbags then broke the game open in the third inning, putting up six runs to give them an 8-0 lead. Long Beach State would add to their big lead in the top of the fifth, scoring three more runs when Patron hit a three-run homer to right-center off of Ryan Deeter to make it 11-0 Dirtbags.

Though the Bruins were unable to muster much offensively through the first seven innings, they continued to fight and finally broke through in the bottom of the eighth with a run. With Kramer on third and one out, freshman Brett Urabe pinch hit for Brenton Allen and hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Kramer, making it 11-1 Long Beach. The deficit was too great though and UCLA went on to fall to the Dirtbags by that 11-1 margin.

Kramer recorded a single, a double and a hit by pitch to reach base in three of his four plate appearances tonight. Freshman Justin Hazard and sophomore Eric Filia added UCLA's only other hits on the night. Pitching-wise, freshman James Kaprielian had a good outing out of the bullpen, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings and striking out four. Junior Zack Weiss and sophomore David Berg pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings out of the bullpen as well.

The Bruins (25-12, 9-6 Pac-12) will hit the road again this weekend, as they travel to Pullman, Wash. to take on the Washington State Cougars (19-18, 6-9 Pac-12) in a three-game series from Friday, April 26 to Sunday, April 28. Game times are 6 p.m., 2 p.m. and 12 p.m. respectively.

Game Notes: James Kaprielian lowered his ERA to 1.15 with his 2.1 scoreless innings tonight...Kaprielian has also not allowed a run in his last six appearances (8.2 innings total)...sophomore David Berg also extended his scoreless innings streak to 17 straight innings without giving up a run (10 consecutive appearances)...Long Beach State's 11 runs were the most runs that UCLA has allowed to an opponent all season...freshman Trent Chatterton drew a walk in the bottom of the fifth in an at-bat that lasted 14 pitches...junior catcher Aaron Weimer entered the game in the ninth inning as pinch-hitter, lining out to short in just his second career plate appearance.
