No. 1 Bruins Return to Action at Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge

The top-ranked UCLA women’s golf team returns to action Sunday in the annual Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.

The Bruins, ranked No.1 in the GolfWeek poll, will be seeking their third tournament title of the season and their third straight Regional Challenge crown. UCLA has won this event four times (2013, 2012, 2008 and 2004) – more than any team in the field.

The 16-team field features six teams ranked in the GolfWeek poll, including the top four teams: UCLA, USC, Duke and Washington. Sixth-ranked Pepperdine has won this tournament three times and USC has won it twice.

As a team, the Bruins enjoyed an outstanding Fall. They were 66-under par in four starts, won two tournaments and produced an individual champion in each of their four appearances.

UCLA freshman Alison Lee enters this tournament as the nation’s consensus No.1 ranked player. In 12 rounds through the Fall campaign, Lee was 27-under par with a 69.7 scoring average. She also leads the team with 10 rounds under par and six rounds under 70. Finally, she won the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational and the Stanford Intercollegiate.

Right behind her is two-time All-American Erynne Lee, a junior. Through 12 rounds, she is 17-under par with a scoring average of 70.4 and a victory at the Mason Rudolph Classic. Ranked fourth nationally by GolfWeek, she has recorded eight rounds under par and five rounds under 70.

Freshman Bronte Law, a member of the 2012 Curtis Cup Team for Great Britain and Ireland, is ranked 14th nationally and is eight-under par through 12 rounds. Her scoring average is 71.3 with five rounds under par and three rounds under 70.

Sophomore Louise Ridderstrom has improved markedly since last season, Now ranked 41st nationally, she has cut nearly three strokes off her scoring average to 72.4. In 12 rounds, she has recorded five scores under par and a tie for eighth result at the Pac-12 Preview.

Senior Ani Gulugian has a scoring average of 73.2 in 12 rounds and has recorded five rounds under par. She tied for ninth place at the Stanford Intercollegiate, her best result of the Fall.
