MINNEAPOLIS - Senior Lauren Baker and the 200 Freestyle Relay team set school records on day one of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center on Thursday.

Thursday's morning session started with a bang in the 200 Free Relay. The quartet of seniors Kathryn Murphy and Ting Quah, sophomore Katie Kinnear and freshman Linnea Mack broke the school record with a 1:29.16. The previous UCLA best was set all of a month ago at the USC meet on Feb. 17.

The 15th-place finish qualified the relay squad to the evening finals, where they improved to 13th overall, as the same foursome swam a time of 1:29.22.

In the second event of the morning trials, Baker eclipsed her teammate's school record in the 500 Freestyle. Her time of 4:42.20 (23rd overall) broke the mark of sophomore Katy Campbell, who set the school standard on the second day of the Pac-12 Championships on Feb. 27. Campbell was 34th overall in Thursday's trials with a 4:44.33.

Freshman Linnea Mack just missed her career-high swim of 22.45 in the 50 Free, going 22.47 to place 31st overall.

On Friday, the trials start at 9 a.m. PT with the 200 Medley Relay. The Bruins set a school record against USC with a time of 1:38.38. UCLA has two swimmers in the 100 Butterfly, Quah and junior Noelle Tarazona. Quah will then come right back in the 200 Free trial. A pair of freshmen take to the pool in the 100 Backstroke, as Mack and Madison White hit the water. Mack set a school record in the event in Texas in December (52.59), while White had the fourth-best swim in UCLA history in Austin (53.43). The morning trials wrap up with the 800 Free Relay. The Bruins qualified for NCAA's with a 7:06.60 on the first day of the Pac-12's (Feb. 26). Friday finals begin at 5 p.m.
