LOS ANGELES - The sixth-ranked Bruins were upset by Loyola Marymount, 4-1, on Thursday afternoon at USC's Merle Norman Stadium. UCLA droped to 6-4 on the year while LMU improved to 5-7.

The #4 and #5 pairs had the first wave of action, as the #4 doubles team of freshmen Skylar Dykstra and Jennie Frager dropped a straight-set match, 21-10, 21-12, to the Lions' Caitlin DeWitt and Hannah Tedrow. Frager had eight kills, three digs and one ace while Dykstra had three kills, three digs and two aces. But DeWitt had a match-high 19 kills to go with five digs, five aces and two blocks.

At No. 5 doubles, the Bruins' Karly Drolson and Rachel Inouye improved to 9-4 on the year with a straight-set victory (21-10, 21-13) over LMU's Ashley Maxfeldt and Taylor Scioscia. Both of the UCLA tandem registered double-doubles with Drolson tallying 14 kills and 15 digs and Inouye recording 13 kills and 11 digs.

The Bruins' duo of junior Karsta Lowe and sophomore Taylor Formico dropped a two-set match (21-16, 23-12) to LMU's Taylor Akana and Rachelle Suaava at #3 doubles. Lowe hit an incredible .750 (16K, 1E, 20TA) and added five blocks and two digs while Formico just missed a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs.

Avery Bush and Kathleen Luft defeated the Bruins' duo of junior Zoë Nightingale and senior Madie Smith, 21-14, 21-12 at No. 2 doubles. Luft had 14 kills while Bush added 10 for the Lions. Smith had 11 kills, five digs and two aces while Nightingale tallied three kills, two digs, two blocks and an ace for UCLA.

Litara Keil and Betsi Metter of LMU won a tightly contested match at No. 1 doubles, defeating the Bruins' tandem of sophomore Kamila Tan and freshman Jessyka Ngauamo 21-17, 24-22. Metter's double-double of 15 kills and 11 digs led the Lions. Ngauamo contributed 15 kills, four digs, two blocks and an ace for UCLA while her partner, Tan, tallied 11 kills, five digs, two aces and one block.
