Giron, from Thousand Oaks, Calif., ended a successful junior season as the Bruins' 11th NCAA Singles Champion and first since Benjamin Kohlloeffel won the title in 2006. He was ranked a career-high No. 2 heading into the NCAA Championships, and his win helped him secure the No. 1 ranking in the final ITA National Singles Rankings. He finished with a 30-5 singles record, his second-straight 30-win season, and he scored 18 ranked wins. Giron, the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships consolation winner, was ranked in Top 5 the ITA Division I Singles Rankings since February 11. He also captured the singles title at the Sherwood Collegiate Cup, defeating four straight ranked opponents. He is a two-time ITA All-American in singles, also earning the honor in 2013.
Giron is the third UCLA player to win the ITA's National Player of the Year Award, following Kohlloeffel (2006) and Marcel Freeman (1982).
