LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- After a sensational freshman season, golfer Alison Lee announced today that she will enter the 2014 LPGA Tour Qualifying School in the fall.

Lee, 19, made the decision this week after meeting with UCLA head coach Carrie Forsyth.

"It is very apparent that Alison Lee has the ability to succeed at any level of golf," said Forsyth. "After accomplishing so many of her goals in one season, Alison asked if I would support an attempt at LPGA Q-school this fall. She wants to remain an amateur and continue to compete for the Bruins during the three-stage process. If she is able to earn full-exempt status she will join the LPGA Tour in 2015. If she doesn't qualify with full status, she will return for our spring college season."

“Alison is an accomplished player and an excellent student,” Forsyth continued. “The compromise we arrived at will allow her to maximize her opportunities in golf, while still encouraging her continuing education and participation on the team. Many of the greatest collegiate players have taken a similar path.”

"In our program we encourage players to maximize their potential,” said Forsyth. “Alison Lee is a perfect example of a tremendously talented athlete who wants take advantage of all her options. I’m supportive of her decision, and yet I’m also here to guide and mentor her journey to the next level.”

Lee recently was voted the winner of the inaugural ANNIKA Award, given to the nation’s top collegiate female golfer.

She won three collegiate tournaments in her first season at UCLA, including the Pac-12 Championship. She was voted the 2014 Pac-12 Freshman and Player of the Year, as well as WGCA national freshman of the year. A 2014 First-Team WGCA All-American, Lee was a member of the United States’ victorious Curtis Cup Team last month.

She also set a UCLA single season scoring record of 71.0 and became the first player in school history to win the GolfStat Cup – collegiate golf’s scoring title. During the season, she played 34 collegiate rounds in 22-under par and led the Bruins with 20 rounds under par and 10 Top 10 results.
