LOS ANGELES -- UCLA junior guard Thea Lemberger was named First Team All-America by the Jewish Sports Review. She was one of five student-athletes on the First Team and was the only one of the five to help her squad advance to the NCAA Tournament.
Lemberger was the only representative from the Pac-12 on either the First Team or the six-person Honorable Mention squad. She joined Danielle Diamant (Sr., F, Northwestern), Naama Shafir (Sr., G, Toledo), Alyssa Baron (Jr., G, Pennsylvania) and Jacqui Kalin (Sr., G, Northern Iowa) on the First Team.
Lemberger spent the summer of 2012 playing on the Israeli Women's 20 and Under National Team. She competed with the team in a tournament in Prague, Czech Republic, and finished the tournament in the top 10 in 10 different statistical categories. She averaged 13.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.
This past season, she guided the Bruins to the NCAA Tournament with an overall record of 26-8 and a third-place finish in the Pac-12 (14-4) while starting in 24 of 28 games she played. She missed six games due to two different injuries (one injury at the beginning of the season and one at the end). Lemberger finished fourth on the team in scoring (8.6 ppg) and was third on the squad in assists with 74 (2.6 apg), which ranked 14th in the Pac-12. Her average of 2.8 assists per game in league play, ranked 15th in the Pac-12 and her 32.7 percent shooting from three-point range in conference games ranked 12th.
She scored a season-high 20 points with a career-best four three-pointers (4-of-4) in the win over Saint Joseph's (Dec. 31, 2012). She also recorded season and career highs of nine assists and five steals in a home win over Arizona (Jan. 25, 2013).
Lemberger joins senior forward Atonye Nyingifa as one of only two returning starters for the 2013-14 campaign.
Making the Honorable Mention All-America squad was Sophie Bikopsky (So., F, Brown), Jamie Kaplan (So., G, Tulane), Camille Mahlknecht (So. C, Cal State Northridge), Lauren Polansky (Sr., G, Princeton), Camila Rosen (Sr., G, New Mexico State) and Carli Rosenthal (So., F, St. Mary's).
