LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men’s and women’s cross country teams will head to the prestigious Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 19. The Bruins will face some of the top talent in the country on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course as the men will run an 8K at 9 a.m. PT, followed by the women’s 6K at 10 a.m.

"We are always excited to race the best in the country and the Wisconsin Invite gives us that opportunity," Coach Forest Braden said. "This is the best men's and women's teams that we have ever brought to Madison and they are all ready to go."

Twenty of the top 30 teams, including five of the top 10 in the nation on the men’s side will make their way to Madison while 17 of the top 30 women’s teams, including six of the top 10 will compete as well. Flotrack will provide a live stream of the event.

"The team is mentally and physically in a good place and the leadership upfront will be huge for us," Braden added. "The guys and girls are not scared of anything and will prove that on Saturday."

UCLA is coming off a women’s victory in the Dual at the Rose Bowl over rival USC while the men competed in a non-scoring meet. No new USTFCCCA rankings came out this week so the men remain ranked No. 21 in the country while the women are receiving votes and check in at No. 7 in the West Region.

In the first few weeks of the season sophomore Sergey Sushchikh and junior Kelsey Smith have led the Bruins. Sushchikh will be joined by seniors Dustin Fay, Patrick Douglas and Zack Torres. Freshman Ferdinand Edman, a Norway native will be making his collegiate debut Saturday. Redshirt junior Paisley Pettway will join the women in Madison after an impressive showing at the Rose Bowl.

The Bruins added a meet on the schedule to make up for the loss of the season opener in Reno as the two squads will now stay in Southern California and compete in the Titan Invitational. The event is slated for Friday, Oct. 25, and will be held on the Fullerton campus.
