GULF SHORES, Ala. - Junior Kelly Reeves became the first Bruin to earn sand volleyball All-American honors on Saturday and advanced, along with fellow junior and sand partner Meg Norton, to Sunday's 16-team Pairs Championship bracket.

Reeves was one of 14 players to earn AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball All-American honors and will go down in history as the first to win the award for the Bruins, who are in their inaugural season.

On the court, Norton and Reeves dropped a pair of hard-fought, three-set decisions on Saturday. However, the duo was still able to finish second in their pool to advance to Sunday's 16-team Pairs Championship.

Norton and Reeves began the morning with a three-set loss (19-21, 21-19, 7-15) to FIU's Jessica Mendoza and Maryna Samoday, later falling to Georgia State's Lane Carico and Katie Madewell in three (21-15, 20-22, 9-15).

Norton and Reeves trip in the 16-team Pairs Championship bracket starts at 6 a.m. PT against Louisiana-Monroe's Zuzana Markova and Tetiana Sukach. Log on to UCLA Volleyball on Twitter for updates.

Sophomore Zoë Nightingale and freshman Becca Strehlow lost in a tough three-setter early on Saturday to Jacksonville's Sammie Strausbaugh and Taylor Nyquist (21-15, 16-21, 11-15) and had to play back-to-back, falling to Saint Mary's Dalas Dodd and Jordan Shaw in two (13-21, 12-21) to complete their weekend.
