No. 11 Men's Tennis to Host No. 12 Stanford, No. 24 Cal

Bruins Return Home to Face Top-25 Bay Area Schools . . .
The 11th-ranked UCLA men's tennis team (13-4; 2-0 Pac-10) returns home this week to host a pair of important Pac-10 matches, facing No. 12 Stanford (12-2; 2-0 Pac-10) on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and No. 24 Cal (11-4; 1-0 Pac-10) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Both matches will take place at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins lost to Stanford, 4-3 and defeated Cal, 6-1 in non-conference matches earlier this season. This week's matches will count in the Pac-10 standings. UCLA Begins Pac-10 Season 2-0 . . .
UCLA is coming off a pair of victories in Arizona over the weekend to start the Pac-10 season with a perfect 2-0 record. The Bruins began their road trip with a 6-1 decision over Arizona State in Tempe on Friday, before shutting out Arizona, 7-0 in Tucson the following day.

Kohlloeffel Becomes First UCLA No. 1 in 10 Years . . .
Junior Benjamin Kohlloeffel recently became the first UCLA player since Justin Gimelstob in 1996 to achieve a No. 1 singles ranking. Kohlloeffel, who owns an impressive 33-3 overall record this season, is listed as the top player in the ITA Singles Rankings released on Tuesday. It marks the first time since April 30, 1996 that a UCLA player has held that distinction.

UCLA in the Fila/ITA Rankings . . .
As a team, UCLA is ranked No. 11 in the latest Fila/ITA Rankings released on Tuesday. Individually, Benjamin Kohlloeffel (No. 1), Mathieu Dehaine (No. 78), Chris Surapol (No. 82) and Haythem Abid (No. 107) are ranked in singles. Philipp Gruendler and Kohlloeffel are ranked No. 4 in doubles.

Kohlloeffel Named Pac-10 Player of the Week . . .
For the second time this season, Benjamin Kohlloeffel earned Pac-10 Player of the Week honors, receiving the award this week following a pair of impressive performances against the Arizona schools over the weekend. Kohlloeffel lost just two singles games in two matches, posting a pair of 6-1, 6-0 wins over Arizona State's Jonathan Kinsella and Arizona's Roger Matalonga. He also teamed with Philipp Gruendler to win two matches at No. 1 doubles. The duo, which is 20-2 overall, currently owns a 15-match winning streak.

Ashe Named NCAA's No. 2 Most Influential Student-Athlete . . .
Former UCLA men's tennis player Arthur Ashe is listed at No. 2 on the NCAA's 100 Most Influential Student-Athletes of the past century. A panel consisting of college and university presidents, athletics directors, NCAA committee members, conference office representatives, SAAC representatives and NCAA staff determined the NCAA's 100 Most Influential Student-Athletes. Former Bruin Jackie Robinson is listed No. 1 overall.

West Coast Championships . . .
For the first time since UCLA hosted it in 1997, the NCAA Championships return to the West Coast in 2006, as Stanford University has been selected to host the first-ever men's and women's combined tournament. The women's team event kicks off on May 18, while the men begin action two days later on May 20.

Head Coach Billy Martin . . .
UCLA head coach Billy Martin owns a 293-57 (.837) overall record in his 13th season in Westwood. He led UCLA to its first NCAA title in more than 20 years this past May, as the Bruins pulled off a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Baylor in the 2005 NCAA final. As a player at UCLA in 1975, Martin captured the NCAA Singles Championship before going on to a very successful professional career. He is a member of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Hall of Fame.
