Eric Peterson's UCLA women and men's cross country teams on Friday (Oct. 1) will compete at the Notre Dame Invitational. The women (5K, 1:15 p.m.PT) and men's (8K, 2 p.m.PT) races will take place on the Burke Memorial Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.
The Bruin women, ranked No. 9 in the U. S. last week, will compete in a field consisting of 24 teams, including five other nationally-ranked squads - No. 1 Stanford, No. 4 Notre Dame, No. 7 Michigan, No. 14 Missouri and No. 23 Michigan State.
Running for the Bruins on Friday will be - senior Carmen Winant; juniors, Jenna Timinsky, Alejandra Barrientos, Allison Hall and Leslie Barrie; sophomores, Alison Costello and Ashley Caldwell, and freshmen, Monika Rothenburger and Olga Aulet-Leon.
Last Saturday, the Bruin women ran in the Stanford Invitational. In the team standings, UCLA placed third (70 points), behind first-place Stanford (21) and second-place SMU (63 points). Over the 4000m Stanford Golf Course, the Bruins had two runners in the Top 10 - Costello (6th, 14:01) and Timinsky (10th, 14:11) and three additional runners in the Top 21 - Caldwell (14th, 14:28), Rothenburger (19th, 14:35) and Hall (21st, 14:42).
"We are looking forward to the upcoming Notre Dame Invitational," said Peterson, in his 11th year coaching the Bruin women. "We have a young team and in the weeks ahead, as the distances on the courses increase and as our young runners gain more experience, our team is going to continue to improve and will be a nationally-competitive squad."
On Saturday, Oct. 9, the Bruins will run in the UC San Diego Triton Invitational in La Jolla.
