Los Angeles - UCLA women's tennis players Megan Bradley and Sara Walker were honored by the Pac-10 Conference Tuesday, as both were named first-team All-Pac-10 following a vote conducted by conference coaches. In addition, Bradley was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year.
Bradley, a freshman from Columbia, Mo., is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation in singles and No. 5 in doubles with partner Lauren Fisher. In her first year at the collegiate level, she posted a 27-6 overall singles record and a 31-6 mark in doubles play. She has played all but three matches at the No. 1 singles position for UCLA, registering an impressive 14-3 mark.
Walker, a junior from El Paso, TX, is ranked No. 10 in the country in singles and No. 4 in doubles with partner Petya Marinova. She owns a 29-9 overall singles record and a 27-9 mark in doubles play. In dual match play, Walker is currently 14-5 overall, playing most of her matches in the No. 2 position. Like Bradley this year, she was named first-team All-Pac-10 and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year back in 2000.
UCLA is hosting NCAA Regional action this weekend at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. Play begins this Friday with Loyola Marymount taking on Washington at 10:00 a.m., followed by seventh-seeded UCLA vs. Southern at 1:00 p.m. Friday's winners will meet on Saturday in the regional final at 3:00 p.m., with the winner advancing to the 16-team NCAA Championships, May 16-25 in Stanford, Calif.
