On Wednesday (Oct. 16), the Harlem Globetrotters broke their 14-day training camp in Prescott, AZ, with 30 players selected to wear the fabled red-white-and blue uniforms of the Hall of Fame team. Among the new players to join the Ambassadors of Goodwill is 6-6 Billy Knight, who last season was a senior starting guard for UCLA.
Knight, who prepped at Westchester HS, in 2001-02 started 33 games (tying a school single-season record) for the Bruins and averaged 14.1 points and a team-high 1.2 steals. In his career, he appeared in 117 games and shot 40.3 (137-340) from three-point range.
The Globetrotters will see action right away with a tour of Europe beginning Oct. 18 and the 2002 Fall College Tour, starting Nov. 5 with a game at Purdue, the first of nine matchups against some of the country's top college programs - defending NCAA Champion Maryland, St. John's, Connecticut, Mississippi State and Ohio State.
The 2002-03 North American tour gets underway in late December. During the three-month tour, the Globetrotters will visit more than 200 cities in the U. S. and Canada through April.
