In the final day of all invitational results at the first annual Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Track & Field Invitational held Saturday (April 5) at Drake Stadium, UCLA great Michelle Perry was named the Women's Athlete of the Meet and former USC standout Jerome Davis was named the Men's Athlete of the Meet.

Perry, who competed at UCLA from 1998-2001 and is one of the nation's top young heptathletes competing unattached, won the 100m hurdles in a time of 13.15 and placed fourth in the long jump (19-6.25).

Davis, who won the 1998 NCAA Outdoor 400m during his career at USC and now runs for Nike, won both the 200m (20.91) and 400m (46.68).

Elite men's athletes who won their events on Saturday were - Great Britain's Doug Bignall in the 100m (10.33); Arron Lacy (Unattached) in the 400m hurdles (50.24); Jacques Sallberg (Unattached) in the 1500m (3:52.46); Bruin great Jess Strutzel (Nike) in the 800m (1:48.33); former Bruin Narc Narcisse (Unattached) in the long jump (24-4.25); Bruin great John Godina (adidas) in the shot put (65-4.25) and Chima Ugwu (Nike) in the discus (194-3).

The Bruin men had four event winners. Sophomore Erik Emilsson in the 3000m steeplechase (9:02.46); senior Kevin Weaver in the high jump (6-11, season-best, NCAA Regional Qualifier); freshman Demetre Howard in the triple jump (47-5, personal-best) and sophomore Yoo Kim in the pole vault (17-8.50, personal-best, No. 7 in school history, NCAA Regional Qualifier).

Also performing well for the Bruins were, on the track - junior Nick Thornton in the 800m (1:50.45, season-opener, NCAA Regional Qualifier); senior Kyle Erickson (3rd, 51.36, season-opener) and sophomore Jonathan Williams (4th, 51.63, season-best, NCAA Regional Qualifier) in the 400m hurdles; UCLA's second-place 4 X 400m relay (3:10.1, season-best, NCAA Regional Qualifier). And in the field - junior Juaune Armon in the long jump (2nd, 24-2.25); junior Pat Luke (2nd, 16-8.75, season-best, NCAA Regional Qualifier) and sophomore Shane Hackett (3rd, 16-2.75, season-best, NCAA Regional Qualifier); junior Dan Ames in the shot put (2nd, 64-5, personal-outdoor best, NCAA Regional Qualifier) and discus (2nd, 188-4, season-opener, NCAA Regional Qualifier) and senior Andrew Phillips in the javelin (3rd, 175-9, personal-best).

Freshman Ryan Hollins, who is the starting center on the Bruin men's basketball team, had an outstanding two-day performance in the jumps. On Friday, he placed second in the qualifying long jump with a personal-best 22-3. On Saturday, Hollins was second in the high jump (6-9.50, personal-best, NCAA Regional Qualifier), fourth in the long jump (21-8) and second (46-1.25, season-opener) in the triple jump.
