Los Angeles - UCLA tennis player Sara Walker, fresh off her title at the Pac-10 Championships last weekend, moved up five spots to No. 2 in the latest singles rankings released Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Walker, a freshman from El Paso, Tex., was ranked No. 7 the past two weeks and trails only Stanford Sophomore Marissa Irvin, who moved up one spot from No. 2 to No. 1.
In doubles, Walker and Basica moved back into the ITA top-10 at No. 9 after being ranked No. 14 the previous week. Elizabeth Schmidt and Spears check in at No. 39. Entering the doubles rankings for the first time this season is Cooper and Petya Marinova at No. 42.
As a team, UCLA falls one spot this week to No. 9. The Bruins have been ranked as high as No. 5.
UCLA awaits the announcement of NCAA Regionals this Thursday.
