MORAGA, CA - UCLA's 11th-ranked womens' volleyball team completed its weekend schedule on Sunday afternoon with a 30-23, 30-21, 30-21 victory over Saint Mary's in Moraga, CA. Lauren Fendrick hit .424 with 17 kills to lead the Bruins, who improve to 15-7 with the win. The Gaels fall to 5-19 with today's loss.
UCLA did not waste any time in sweeping the Gaels as the match lasted one hour and 15 minutes. In game one Saint Mary's opened with a 4-1 rally before the Bruins scored 10 of the next 13 points, before cruising to the 30-23 win. With the score tied 10-10 in game two, UCLA ran-off eight straight points to open an 18-10 advantage before closing out the game with a 30-21 advantage. Game three saw the Gaels get as close as 13-12 before the Bruins 30-21 victory.
For the match, UCLA posted a team hitting percentage of .270 while holding Saint Mary's to a .118 mark. Saint Mary's posted eight blocks as a team as senior Carla Jo Vandenbark had five blocks in the match.
UCLA had three players tally double digits in kills with Fendrick's 17 leading the way. Angela Eckmier chipped in with 15 kills and a .385 hitting percentage while Cira Wright added 14 kills to go along with a .500 hitting clip. Setter Erika Selsor had 54 assists and Chrissie Zartman and Ashley Bowles had 12 digs each.
UCLA returns to action on Thursday night in Pauley Pavilion for its final two home matches of the regular season. The Bruins play host to Oregon on Thursday night and Oregon State on Friday night. Both matches will be broadcast live on www.uclabruins.com and are scheduled for 7 pm starts.
