Center Carly Funicello (North Hills, CA) has made the Los Angeles Sparks 18-player training camp roster, joining former Bruins Maylana Martin (Minnesota Lynx) and Natalie Williams (Utah Starzz) in the WNBA.
The 6-4 Funicello averaged 4.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in her four-year (1997-2000) career at UCLA. Funicello, who ranks eighth on UCLA's all-time career blocked shots list with 59, posted career-highs of 17 points and 17 rebounds. On Jan. 30, 1999, she recorded an impressive double-double of 16-points/17-rebounds. She amassed a total of 37 career starts, including all 27 games as a freshman en route to earning honorable mention Pac-10 All-Freshman acclaim.
The WNBA training camp starts Wednesday, May 3, with the pre-season beginning May 13 with four contests. Teams are allowed to play a maximum of four preseason games.
