UCLA Earns 5th Place at MPSF Championships

Los Angeles - The fifth-ranked UCLA men's water polo team earned fifth place at the MPSF Championships with a 9-5 win over Pacific in the consolation bracket on Sunday at USC's McDonald's Swim Stadium. The Bruins improve to 21-8 on the season with the victory.

Freshman Krsto Sbutega led the Bruins with three goals, junior Grant Zider posted two goals, and sophomores Justin Johnson, Matthew Jacobs, Marco Santos, and Cameron Smith each posted a goal apiece.

Junior goalkeeper Will Didinger finished the match with two saves.

The Bruins played the Tigers to a 1-1 tie after the first period, but held a 3-2 advantage heading into halftime.

UCLA and Pacific both posted two goals in the third period, as UCLA entered the final period of play with a slim 5-4 lead.

The Bruins exploded with four goals in the fourth period while holding the Tigers to only one goal to seal the 9-5 win.
