T. J. Cummings Academically Ineligible For Fall Quarter

UCLA senior forward T.J. Cummings has been declared ineligible for the 2003 Fall Quarter because he did not meet NCAA academic eligibility requirements. He will miss at least five games (two exhibition/three regular season) that take place during the Fall Quarter but will be allowed to practice with the team during that time.

At the conclusion of Fall Quarter final exams (Dec. 8-12), Cummings' academic status will be re-evaluated. If Cummings, who is currently in summer school, is eligible following Fall Quarter, he could play in some (or all) of UCLA's games between Fall and Winter quarters (depending on when his eligibility is restored/there are six games between quarters). Winter Quarter instruction begins on Jan. 8, 2004.

Cummings, a 6-9, 215-pounder from Homewood, IL (Homewood-Flossmoor HS), averaged 10.3 points (No. 3 on the team) and 4.9 rebounds (No. 3 on the team) in 2002-2003. He played in all 29 games, starting 16 times. He has the most career appearances on the squad (94, including 23 starts).

"We expect our players to excel both in the classroom and on the basketball court," Bruin head coach Ben Howland said. "T. J. knows what he has do in the classroom to be eligible to play on the court. As a staff and team, we will support T. J. in his academic pursuits."
