Pacific Palisades, Calif. - All three UCLA singles players and both doubles teams dropped first-round matches Thursday at 1999 Riviera Women's All-American Championships held at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Freshman Sara Walker extended Duke's Kathy Sell to three sets before falling 6-1,1-6,6-4. Amanda Basica fell to her first-round opponent, Mira Radu of Mississippi, 6-3,7-6(3) and Annica Cooper was ousted by Martina Nedelkova of VCU 6-3,6-0.
In doubles action, Basica and Cooper, after taking the first set 6-0 against Stanford's Teryn Ashley/Laura Granville, dropped the final two sets 6-3,6-2. Also for the Bruins, Petya Marinova and Walker were knocked off by William & Mary's Carlijn Buis/Delphine Troch 6-3,6-3.
The Riviera Women's All-American Championships is the second leg of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Grand Slam.
