This Saturday, October 11, the UCLA men return to action after a week off from competition. The Bruin "B" team will compete at the Triton Classic, held at the UCSD North Campus Athletic Fields. The men's 8K race will kick off at 9:30 AM, following the women's 6K beginning at 8:30 AM.
Representing the Bruins this weekend are freshman Craig Hall, sophomores Nick De Felice, Martell Munguia and Mohammed Qazi, and juniors Puneet Mahan, Reggie Oronoz, Jon Rankin and Nick Thornton. Rankin, one of the top-three returners from last year, will make his season debut.
"I'm greatly anticipating the return of Jon Rankin to our line up," said Peterson. "He is in very good shape and ready to begin the 2003 cross country season. Recently, his workouts have been going quite well and he has maintained good health for about 5 months without a setback. He will obviously add some needed depth to our young team."
In recent weeks, the Bruins placed second in the 4K race at the Stanford Invitational. Prior to that, UCLA won the Big Wave Invitational, held in Honolulu, for the second consecutive year.
