No. 2 UCLA Defeats No. 3 USC, 7-6, in MPSF Semifinals; Bruins will Face Stanford in Championship Game

Los Angeles - In the MPSF Semifinal match-up between No. 2 UCLA and No. 3 USC, the Bruins clinched the 7-6 victory and advance to Sunday's MPSF Championship game against No. 1 Stanford. The Bruins (20-3, 10-1 MPSF) will face Stanford (21-1, 10-1 MPSF) at 4:15 PM Sunday, April 27, at the McDonald's Swim Stadium.

In today's game, USC took a 2-1 lead after the first quarter on goals by Sofia Konoukh and Aniko Pelle. Maureen Flanagan gave UCLA its first goal of the game in the first quarter. In the second quarter, junior Robin Beauregard scored two goals and senior Kelly Heuchan and junior Jessica Lopez each netted a goal. At halftime, the Bruins led the Trojans 5-4. Freshman Amber Stachowski scored a goal in the third quarter, putting the Bruins up 6-5. Beauregard netted her third goal of the game in the fourth quarter, sealing UCLA's 7-6 victory. Junior Goal keeper Jaime Hipp had 12 saves in the game.

For USC, Eszter Gyori had two goals and Sofia Konoukh, Shelli Linza, Aniko Pelle and Sandra Milicev each scored one goal. Goalkeeper Sarah Mix had 3 saves.

The winner of tomorrow's MPSF Championship game will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, May 11-12, at USC.
