UCLA senior Christina Tolson on Saturday placed third in both the women's shot put and weight throw at the 2001 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the Georgia Dome at Atlanta.
Tolson, from Fountain Valley, placed third in the shot put with a mark of 56-4 3/4 and was also third in the weight throw with a 65-5. As a junior last season, Tolson earned NCAA All-America honors four times for the Bruins, twice outdoors (shot put/hammer) and twice indoors (shot put/weight throw).
Also in the women's throws on Saturday, in the shot put, freshman Jessica Cosby placed fifth in the shot put (52-7 1/2) and junior Chaniqua Ross was seventh (51-10 1/2). In the weight throw, sophomore Cari Soong was ninth (59-4 3/4).
Senior Michelle Perry placed 13th (8.50) in the women's 60m hurdles preliminary race and did not advance to the final.
In men's competition, junior Scott Moser was sixth in the shot put (59-7 3/4).
On Friday, Bruin junior Tracy O'Hara was fifth (13-3 3/4) in the women's pole vault.
Bruin alumni who performed well at the 2001 USA Indoor included: Amy Acuff, first in the women's high jump (6-3 1/2), Bisa Grant, second in the women's 60m hurdles (8.02), John Godina, second in the men's shot put (67-6), and Seilala Sua, fourth in the women's shot put (56-2).
