CORVALLIS, Ore. - Freshman forward Kara Lang scored twice to lead the fourth-ranked UCLA women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Oregon State in a Pacific-10 Conference contest on Sunday at Lorenz Field. With the victory, the Bruins improve to 13-1 on the season and remain undefeated in the conference at 3-0.
The Beavers (8-5-1 overall, 1-2-1 Pac-10) had no answer for the Bruin defense, and attempted just four shots to UCLA's 15. The Bruins have given up only six goals all season, posting their ninth shutout of the year.
Lang got on the board at 10:53, as she headed in a long cross from the left side by junior defender Mary Castelanelli. The game was 1-0 at halftime.
Castelanelli provided a carbon copy of the first goal at 51:06, as she sent in another long cross from the left side, though this time it was headed in by sophomore midfielder Danesha Adams. It was Adams' team-high 12th goal of the season.
The Bruins got their third goal just over a minute later. Senior forward Iris Mora took the ball at midfield and popped a high ball up to the edge of the penalty box. Lang outran OSU's defense to the ball, giving her an easy one-on-one opportunity with OSU's goalkeeper. She scored at 52:18 for her seventh goal of the season.
UCLA returns home next week, hosting Washington and Washington State.
