SATURDAY, MAY 28
It was another exciting day today. We came out ready to play. The intensity was high and we got it done. We beat Southern Miss. 6-0. We let up a little bit, but I think that our defense and our pitching really kept us in the game. Of course, the offense helped, but right now, everybody is pumped. We're excited and CAN'T WAIT for tomorrow's game. We're playing Oklahoma. They beat Arizona 1-0 and of course we were all watching that game on TV back at the hotel. We were cheering and we're excited. I think that it's going to be a good game. If we come out playing our game, we'll be OK.
I guess for myself, an exciting thing for me today was going to the post-game press conference for the first time. I was really nervous, and I kind of didn't want to go, but it was OK. I was asked two or three questions and it was awesome. It was really neat getting a chance to listen to (senior third baseman) Julie Adams and (sophomore pitcher) Amanda Freed and Coach (Enquist) talk about the game and see the way that they present themselves. It's really neat that we (the freshmen) have such good role models and I hope that we all get a chance to participate in the one tomorrow and just go out there and have some fun.
SATURDAY, MAY 27
Today was another exciting day. We came back and finished our game against Washington. We were up 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth when the game was stopped on Friday night. This morning, we finished the game. We gave up two runs, but won the game 3-2.
After we won the game, we kind of had the day off, so we went to cheer on our baseball team, who is playing their NCAA Regional here in Oklahoma City, then we went back to the field to watch Melissa Ethridge sing the national anthem before one of the games.
I think a highlight of the day was that later that night we went to the memorial for the Oklahoma City bombing. It was really neat, and I'm glad that we did it. It puts things in perspective for you and you just realize how fortunate we are. I think it will keep us on track the rest of this week. Today was just a really good day.
THURSDAY, MAY 25
Today we beat Alabama 4-1. We started off a little slow but we came through in the end. Lyndsey Klein, my "big sis" hit a two-run home run in the sixth to give us a little extra cushion. Bucky (sophomore OF Crissy Buck) got an awesome bunt down to keep our rally going in the fifth, and Lupe (Brambla) made their shortstop bobble a ball to get herself on base. Overall, it was a good day. Tomorrow, we play Washington and we won't have the pre-game jitters like we had today, since we've kind of gotten them out of the way already.
I was one of the people randomly selected for drug testing, so right now five of us are on our way to do that. Hello to everyone at home, and cheer us on!
The best part of the day was probably right before we left for the field. The seniors put together a kind of special presentation for the team, mostly to get us pumped up and get the freshman into the mode for playing in the world series.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow's game against Washington. Hopefully we can play a good game and be ready to go from the start.
