UCLA (26-23) dropped a 9-2 non-conference contest to Arizona (25-20-1) in front of 431 fans at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Wildcat starter John Meloan held UCLA to only two hits in a complete game performance. He struck out six batters and walked two.

After the Wildcats put up four runs in the top half of the first inning, three of which came from a Moises Duran home run, UCLA put up a run of its own with a solo home run from Preston Griffin.

Arizona would pull away from the Bruins in the following innings, scoring two in the second and one in the third inning. In the fifth, a two-run home run from Trevor Crowe stretched the Wildcat lead to 9-2.

Ryan McCarthy would post the other UCLA run with a solo round tripper in the seventh frame.

Wes Whisler would shut down the Arizona offense in the late innings, allowing only two runs on one hit in the final four innings of action. He also struck out three batters.

The Bruins will continue their home stand on Tuesday when they host Cal State Fullerton. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
