Wes Whisler was named to Baseball America's Summer League All-America Team as a designated hitter in it's most recent issue. The publication also named him the top prospect in the Cape Cod League.
Whisler, who finished his summer league season with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, hit .309 with six home runs. His home run total ranks tied for tops on the All-America team. Whisler tallied 38 hits, including seven doubles, and 16 RBI's in 123 at bats with the Red Sox.
In his freshman campaign at UCLA, Whisler broke the freshman home run record with 18, while hitting .329. On the mound, the lefthander led the team with a 4.06 ERA in 84.1 innings of work. Whisler was also tops among Bruin pitchers with 59 strikeouts. His totals earned him a Freshman All-America selection from Baseball America and the PAC-10 Freshman of the Year award.
