Babcock Named Graduate Assistant Coach

Mike Babcock has been hired as a graduate assistant coach for the UCLA football team, it was announced today. He takes the place of Matt Rhule, who left to become a fulltime assistant coach at Western Carolina.

Babcock is in his sixth season with the UCLA football program and third as a member of the staff, having spent the last two years as an undergraduate assistant coach. His duties will include assisting Marc Dove with coaching the linebackers, breaking down opponents' video, aiding the defensive coaches with game plan preparation and being in charge of the offensive scout team. Mike will also play a role in the development of UCLA's special teams and helps handle substitutions on the field during games.

Babcock entered UCLA in the fall of 1997 and was a member of the Bruin football team, playing three seasons as an inside linebacker. He was a member of the 1997 and 1998 Pac-10 conference championship teams that played in the Cotton Bowl (1998) and Rose Bowl (1999). He began working as a member of the coaching staff for the 2000 season and earned a bachelor's degree during the 2001-2002 school year.
