Santa Barbara, Calif. - A heads-up goal by senior forward Seth George gave UCLA the momentum it needed to defeat UC Santa Barbara 3-2 on the road Friday night.
After UCSB senior forward Aron Wellman scored the game's first goal at the 40:43 mark, he and several other Gauchos celebrated by jumping over the fence into the fans. When those players were slow in getting back into position for the ensuing kickoff, George made them pay by lofting a high looper past the defense towards the UCSB goal. By the time UCSB keeper Trent Ulicny could get to the ball, it went into the net and tied the game at one.
Bruin midfielder Shea Travis put the Bruins ahead at the 58:52 mark when he finished a cross from Pete Vagenas. But the Gauchos tied it again two minutes later off a goal by Wellman, who hit a rebounded shot past Bruin keeper Kevin Perrault.
With two minutes to play in the game, George struck again. After McKinley Tennyson, Jr.'s shot was blocked by Ulicny, George pounced on the rebound and struck it into the net for the game-winner, his seventh this season and school- record 19th in his career.
UCLA increases its record to 14-2, 5-1 in the MPSF. UCSB drops to 2-16, 0-7 in the MPSF.
