WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA catcher Stacey Nuveman has been named Pac-10 player of the Week, while her teammate Keira Goerl was named Pitcher of the Week for April 22-28, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Nuveman, a senior from LaVerne, Calif., posted a .667 batting average (8-for-12), one home run, five RBI, two doubles, a slugging percentage of 1.083 and two walks while helping the Bruins take over sole possession of first place in the Pac-10.

Nuveman either tied or set two milestones last week. In Wednesday's (Apr. 24) victory over eighth-ranked Washington, she played in her 247th game in a Bruin uniform, becoming UCLA's all-time leader in career games played. Later that week in a win over seventh-ranked Stanford (Apr. 27), Nuveman hit the 85th homer in her career, tying the NCAA career home run record. She accomplished the feat in 249 career games, while her predecessors, Laura Espinoza and Leah Braatz (both former Arizona players), set the mark in 251 and 271 games, respectively.

On the season, Nuveman is hitting .554 with 15 home runs, 54 RBI, a 1.038 slugging percentage and a .669 on-base percentage.

Goerl, a sophomore from Moreno Valley, Calif., earned three of UCLA's four wins last week, posting a 3-0 record. Goerl struck out 28 batters in 21.0 innings pitched. She gave up just six hits and three runs while opponents hit a mere .085 against her.

The highlight of the week came when Goerl threw her fifth no-hitter (84th in UCLA history) of the season against sixth-ranked California last Friday (Apr. 26). Her five solo no-hitters in a season are the most in the Conference since Bruin great DeeDee Weiman did the same in 1994.

Overall, Goerl is 24-4 with an 0.55 ERA. She has struck out 230 batters in 178.0 innings of work.

It is the ninth weekly honor for Nuveman while Goerl garners the fifth award of her career. UCLA has now received 67 honors all-time.
